Destination Loch Goil

If you are hunting for the ideal holiday location in Scotland then Loch Goil with its villages of Lochgoilhead and Carrick Castle is an ideal choice. It really is the perfect location for anyone looking to get away from it all, without spending hours driving ever northwards.

Loch Goil is a unique holiday destination. When you are here it feels like you are a million miles away from the hustle and bustle of the city, indeed the peace, tranquillity and unspoilt views could easily trick you into believing you were many hours away from civilisation. In reality you are just over an hour from the vibrant city of Glasgow and within the glen you have a plethora of facilities to suit all your holiday needs.

Loch Goil is a fjord-like sea loch surrounded by mountains and the forests of the Argyll Forest Park. While it is located within the Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park it is still an undiscovered gem for many visitors to the park.

At the head of the loch you find the pretty village of Lochgoilhead with its post office and village store, friendly pubs, inns Lochgoilhead Villageand activity centres.

The village has been a popular holiday destination for a long time and in years gone by holiday makers journeyed to their holiday houses in Lochgoilhead via steamer from the Clyde river.

Today the village still has a mixture of permanent and holiday homes as well as the the leisure village of Drimsynie next to the village. Drimsynie has a range of facilities including a golf course, indoor bowling, swimming pool, children’s play area and bar / restaurant. Here you will also find a small supermarket and laundrette.

Drive further along the loch and you find the village of Carrick Castle, named after the 15th century tower house that guards the shore line.
Carrick Castle
When you stay at Carrick you immediately notice the absence of noise. With no through road the usual background hum of traffic is non existent, instead you hear only the lapping of the waves on the shore and cries of sea birds.

Instead of buses and trains you may spot one of the loch’s seals or if you are really fortunate an otter. Whether you like to potter along the shoreline or hike off into the hills you will notice the sparklingly clean air and how refreshed it makes you feel.

All around you are magnificent hills and mountains, sometimes snow capped or adorned with waterfalls and during the summer cloaked in the deep green of the Argyll Forest Park.
